Waning Moon

Another early rise to meet the moon

It is dark out, not pitch though

I tread slowly not wanting to stir the others

My hot cup in hand

I open the blinds and stare up at the sky to greet her

Preparing to bathe under her light

Bright even though it’s been days since she was full

I soak in the moments of quiet

Knowing I have her to myself for mere moments

She comforts me in her soft glow

Cocooning me into stillness unlike at any other time

I close my eyes and breathe in her warmth

She reaches into my soul and lightly pats my heart

Letting me know all will be okay

Just then, I hear the creaking wood

Alerting me I’m no longer awake on my own

I open my eyes pleased to see

The momentary twilight will soon rise to the day
