The Beach

Beads glisten in the light

It’s barely been a minute

Toasting under the sun

Wish for cool and shade

Despite love for radiance

Brown skin must not burn

Sea oats sway over dunes

Mindful of loggerhead nests

Gentle taunt of the breeze

Tote and flip flops anchor

Plop in a dreadful mess

Cradle bent knees

Retriever splashes over tennis ball

Horseshoe crab tumbles in waves

Dolphin pod dives in delight

Hues change in the expanse

Pale greens and deep blues

Shiver at the enormity

Trepidation met with grittiness

Release the cords

Surrender to the sirens
